The Innovative Grants Program supports BMS teachers in their efforts to cultivate stimulating and creative learning environments where children are excited to learn and have access to tools and opportunities that keep them engaged. This program celebrates and encourages teacher creativity, innovation, and ingenuity for "out-of-the box" teaching by reducing or removing funding barriers.
Innovative Grants have supported the development of BMS' Viking TV, where students learn about and participate in key aspects of journalism and broadcast production. In addition, these materials have also been used to inspire student-driven podcasts and other multi-media projects. Finally, Innovative Grants have provided electronic tools that bring 21st century learning to the next level. The Pear Deck platform, for example, (www.peardeck.com) has been made available to all BMS teachers as a tool to improve engagement, assessment and individualized teaching. Pear Deck enables teachers not only to create engaging instructional content, but also add the magic of formative assessments and interactive questions to their classroom experience.
Mark your calendars! The Benicia Middle School PTSA is hosting its 1st Annual Innovative Grants Fundraiser on Saturday, March 21, 2020.
